The Introduction of my Creation
While contemplating on the distance between nature and mankind, I’m always drawn to the mountains. Naturally, my observation and exploration of nature take place in the mountains, where a wide diversity of life forms finds shelter and have their homes built. Mountains are indeed full of life.
Various mountains attract me to sketch and paint them within a “distance”. The “distance” is in part physical, the actual space between me and the mountains. The distance is necessary to allow my eyes to take in the wholesomeness of the mountains. Another kind of “distance” is in a mental form, which I adopt to rid of my ego as a human being and learn how to enter a forest appropriately once again. The latter is widely practiced among many tribes in Taiwan. When I visited the mountains, my indigenous friends taught me to be thankful to the forests for letting us intrude and rest inside them. It is this thankfulness I bear in mind when I leave a forest with a “distance”. I thank them for sharing the peace and ease from the distance.
The materials applied to my artworks are as follows: Xuan paper, glue paste made of flour and water, linen and cotton fabric, ink and white paint powder made of shells. I paint the nature and I hope my artworks are created with natural organic ingredients. To me, this is my way to show my respect to earth and nature.
An art creator, in my opinion, is merely a messenger for the mountains. My artworks and how they are presented are all media utilized to tell their stories.
